I can’t speak for everyone, but the issue is that it’s not fair to equate a part of someone’s identity with something negative… it’s like people saying something is so ghetto, what their words are really saying, is that’s so hood/black… that’s not right, because even a white suburb is a ghetto [a concentration of one race], but people ignore that and just equate it to black ppl. That quote that goes, “When they came for the jews, i remained silent…. blah blah blah… and when they came for me, there was no one to speak up for me.” Take any part of ur identity, and imagine them using it in the place of the word “slutty”, now think about how that would make u feel to hear it daily [regardless of the context]. I hope this helps clarify my stance on the word gay being a synonym for stupid. On my own, I don’t take offense when I hear it anymore, but I do silently judge the person using it… same as someone who calls females bitches and hoes, you don’t scold them, but u do change ur perception of them. This isn’t about being oversensitive, b.c words are just words; but far too many ppl use it in a nont so nice context, than those who use it in a “nice” context, if there even is such a way, other than it’s intended meaning [ie.e happy, or a MAN who is sexually attracted to another MAN]. Good question though, lol. =]
